Great book! My second copy!

My second copy after 20 years using the first copy. This is basic and easy to follow with pictures and workouts for the gym and at home. I have always followed and loved Rachel McLish. Her success in health and bodybuilding speak for her knowledge and expertise in training. She makes it simple to workout when others are confusing. This is why I purchased the book again after all these years. My original fell apart. Thanks Amazon for once again having what I needed at an affordable price! The packaging was torn in my mailbox. That is the reason for only four stars instead of five. I recommend this book!

A must read for women who are into fitness

I recentley bought this book because a friend of mine that is a trainer reccomended it to me. The instructions are easy to follow and the book is filled with beautiful pictures. I enjoy the book and I often utilize the moves from various sections to reduce some of my trouble spots. I would reccomend this to any semi-or higher experienced female weight lifter. I have loaned and reccomended this to many friends. It is a definite addition to any woman's collection of fitness material.

A classic that withstands the test of time

I purchased a used copy via ThriftBooks at Amazon Marketplace after joining an online group of fitness buddies in a quest for going old-school and back to the tried and true basics with our workouts. I am in my fifties, and today's hardcore workouts do not appeal to me. I do not want to be Insane, go to an Asylum, become a Beast, climb ropes, jump over walls or roll tractor tires. If that's your thing, good for you! However, my motto is "Ban the Burpee!" On the other hand, I'm sick of plodding through the gym with no sense of direction and dreading it on the drive there.

I am very happy with this book. Rachel McLish and Joyce Vedral have a clear, direct and encouraging writing style. There are exercise plans for home and gym workouts. The book may be old, but it is packed with solid information. As you read through the concise instructions, you realize that there is an overlying focus on correct form, visualization of what you seek to achieve, and keeping your muscles in contraction for optimal results. It is filled with photos of the beautiful and inspirational Ms. McLish demonstrating the exercises, all grouped by body part. I just finished a chest and triceps workout at the gym and enjoyed having this book as a companion. It is a good size, the print is easy to read, say from the floor while you are setting up on a weight bench, you can prop it open with a dumbbell to see the exercises and read form tips. I may have not done a single burpee or rolled one tractor tire, but this was no sissy workout, either. Be prepared to work! I plan to purchase more of these style books as I progress. So glad to have taken this trip back in time.

My only caveat would be, to be aware that exercise science has progressed since this book was published. I think the ab exercises are dated and not as effective as a good Pilates mat workout or stability ball abs workout, but that is easy to remedy.
