Anyone who suffers from obsessive guilt . .

. . should read this book. Joan Borysenko, PhD., appears to be highly versed in the knowledge of guilt, as she suffered from this disease herself.
This book is rich in different forms of psychology, both past and present, but it also mixes the spiritual with that psychology. I think, with most psychologists, that is the factor that is missing. There's the physical, the mental, and the spiritual. Too often, doctors leave the latter out of their practice, and I believe, as Joan Borysenko illustrates, it is a mistake.
This is not just merely a self-help book, but a book that gives you a lot of detail and insight on unhealthy guilt. The aurthor uses examples from her own life, as well as from some of the people she has come across in her practice, to give the reader further understanding. There's exercises for the reader to try, as well as meditations.
If you've EVER suffered from obsessive, unhealty guilt and low self-esteem, this book is MUST.

You have problems with Guilt?

This was a gift, my friend told me she had problems with gilt, after talking for a little while I sort of got and idea what she need it, I star browsing on the books section of Amazon, reading the differents descriptions and reviews of people that had purchased the book. I recognized the author, I have red some of her books before. After my friend received the book I wanted to know her opinion. I waited a couple weeks to give her a chance to read some of it. She was so elated, she told me this book is like water to a person is dying from thirst. She said she cried and felt like the author was speaking to her. I was very happy to hear that because I am always trying to help my friends in every way I can. I bought the book for myself but I have not have the time to read it because I am finishing another book. A friend of mine sort of browsed through the book and he was making good comments about it.

I have several of Mr. Griswold's tapes and recommend them to my friends. This one is very good and I think it has helped me to have a more prosperous attitude. I'm just jealous of my friend. He borrowed my copy and only listened to it once or twice. Incredibly the money has been rolling in for him ever since. My only problem with the tape is that the brief introductory part gets repetitive. But Mr. Griswold suggests you skip over this anyhow.

Octavia is truly a master mind science fiction writer. Her stories parallel so many life lessons that cause one to think in ways that you would have never fathomed had you not read her work. I will even have to do some research on the book as I presume, the average brain is not thinking along the same lines she is. The book is so incredibly fascinating, you just have to read it and its even better if you've read her other works that have led up to this book. Trust me, once you get in, you will have a hard time putting it down.

Why did I wait so long!

Thirty-seven years after reading "Kindred," which ignited my interest in science fiction, I've read two of the three Patternist books. What I particularly love is the suggestion of a deep power and sensitivity African Americans have inherently within them. The alternate reality Butler offers piques the curiosity too of the power within all of us. I have always believed humans are subjected to the limitations of society but these books effectively illustrate it!

A Woman's Realistic View of Vietnam & its Aftermath

Home Before Morning Is one of the most amazing books I have ever read. I bought the book when it was originally published back in 1983. At the time I was a young O.R. nurse and I was fascinated by the idea of nurses in Vietnam. Oh, if only I had been old enough to volunteer the way Lynda VanDevanter did. She quickly dashed the stars from my eyes with her descriptions of life in Pleiku. And if the horror of Vietnam wasn't bad enough, what she (and so many other returning vets) endured when she returned to the U.S. makes me ashamed, even today. That she emerged from the years of PTSD to help other women veterans is a testament to her courage and strength of character. My copy of Home Before Morning remains on my bookshelf, and always will. It has been passed around to many friends and co-workers. I think it should be required reading in every high school American History class.

Pretty good read

I loved the first part of the book when the author writes about her experiences in Viet Nam.
I stopped reading when she gets back home and is trying to deal with her depression. It became a chore for me to read.
It gave a good insight into how war ruins people and countries and the utter waste and uselessness of it.

An Eye Opener!

This is one of the greatest books I've ever read. There is an enormous amount of language in the book, but Lynda Van Devanter was just being as honest as she could be about her experiences in Vietnam.

This is the true story of an army nurse who served in Pleiku Province in Vietnam. She starts off the story with her experiences in nursing school and beyond and then goes into what led her to join the army to serve as a nurse in Vietnam. After that, she tells her story about her tour in Pleiku. She uses very graphic imagery and explicit language, but this is a heart wrenching story that will lead the reader to truly understand what Vietnam was like for them. I laughed and cried throughout this book, and in the end, Lynda Van Devanter became one of my heroes as did all the veterans of this cruel war.

Great easy reading book!!!!

After seeing "Beaches" and reading it, it only came to reason to read the sequel. And, boy, was it good!!! Anyone who saw the movie has to read the books!!!! They will make you laugh and cry, and you can just picture Cee Cee standing on the beach, hands on her hips with a nasty look on her face! Trust me, you pick one of these books up, you'll read it from start to finish!

I thought that I'll Be There was an exelent book. It made me laugh and cry, as well as feel emotions that I have never felt before. The book was easy to read. Even non-readers should love it and be able to slip into the story line in no time. I hope all of Iris Rainer Dart's books are as good as this one was.

A HARLEQUIN-ESQUE STANDARD WESTERN

"westward,ho,the women" is a 1950's western starring robert taylor about a wagon train taking selected women west to be brides for the frontier men. In a nutshell that is what this book is.A little variation: our heroines Laura and Tucker are orphans and Laura is blind; The scoutmaster (like Robt Taylor) is a hunk, his scout is a halfbreed, the bad guys want the women..it was a cute western movie in the 50's but very predictable book. The other thing it lacked is depth. It made a big deal of Lucas possession of a tintype which resembled Tucker but never tied it in at all, and though all of the characters were interesting, we never got to really know them well. Too bad.

I have nothing bad to say about Dorothy Garlock's books--I'm addicted! However . . . there were a couple of things I would have liked to see more detail on and they would have only taken a page or two each.

I would have liked to read about Tucker telling Lucas Steele about Frank Parcher's doings after all was resolved. I would have liked to have known when Dr. Marie Cooper (?) told Rafe Blanchard about the worry and required "treatment" if he had contracted the wild bull's madness. I thought it was a little far-fetched how Frank Parcher planned to abduct Tucker. It also seemed a bit frustrating that Tucker didn't alert Lucas et al about Parcher's nefarious threats to her before it went too far. Also, that Tucker didn't have a firmer plan to remove (kill) Parcher from the picture.

But I loved it anyway :-) This is the first one that left me a tad unsatisfied, though.

I loved this book. I read it in a day!!!

This book let you feel their feelings. Three romances form on this trip from Fort Worth, Texas to Coopertown, California. Each romance is different, and special in their own way. For Laura and Buck, it is beautiful. A girl that is blind, a man that has a troubled soul. Her beauty-inside and out changed his life. For Tucker and Lucas it was hot all the way. Explosive is a better word for it! Then there is Rafe Blatchet and Marie Hook. Who would have thought she was a doctor. She found a love in a man who could accept that she was a doctor and would not be intimidated by her. It was great. But I won't forget the bond that these women created by being strong and standing up for themselves against odds such as abuse (sexual, physical, and mental), Indians, and renegades.
It keeps the reader going. Once again I will say that Dorothy Garlock has brought the frontier home. Thank You!

Great book! My second copy!

My second copy after 20 years using the first copy. This is basic and easy to follow with pictures and workouts for the gym and at home. I have always followed and loved Rachel McLish. Her success in health and bodybuilding speak for her knowledge and expertise in training. She makes it simple to workout when others are confusing. This is why I purchased the book again after all these years. My original fell apart. Thanks Amazon for once again having what I needed at an affordable price! The packaging was torn in my mailbox. That is the reason for only four stars instead of five. I recommend this book!

A must read for women who are into fitness

I recentley bought this book because a friend of mine that is a trainer reccomended it to me. The instructions are easy to follow and the book is filled with beautiful pictures. I enjoy the book and I often utilize the moves from various sections to reduce some of my trouble spots. I would reccomend this to any semi-or higher experienced female weight lifter. I have loaned and reccomended this to many friends. It is a definite addition to any woman's collection of fitness material.

A classic that withstands the test of time

I purchased a used copy via ThriftBooks at Amazon Marketplace after joining an online group of fitness buddies in a quest for going old-school and back to the tried and true basics with our workouts. I am in my fifties, and today's hardcore workouts do not appeal to me. I do not want to be Insane, go to an Asylum, become a Beast, climb ropes, jump over walls or roll tractor tires. If that's your thing, good for you! However, my motto is "Ban the Burpee!" On the other hand, I'm sick of plodding through the gym with no sense of direction and dreading it on the drive there.

I am very happy with this book. Rachel McLish and Joyce Vedral have a clear, direct and encouraging writing style. There are exercise plans for home and gym workouts. The book may be old, but it is packed with solid information. As you read through the concise instructions, you realize that there is an overlying focus on correct form, visualization of what you seek to achieve, and keeping your muscles in contraction for optimal results. It is filled with photos of the beautiful and inspirational Ms. McLish demonstrating the exercises, all grouped by body part. I just finished a chest and triceps workout at the gym and enjoyed having this book as a companion. It is a good size, the print is easy to read, say from the floor while you are setting up on a weight bench, you can prop it open with a dumbbell to see the exercises and read form tips. I may have not done a single burpee or rolled one tractor tire, but this was no sissy workout, either. Be prepared to work! I plan to purchase more of these style books as I progress. So glad to have taken this trip back in time.

My only caveat would be, to be aware that exercise science has progressed since this book was published. I think the ab exercises are dated and not as effective as a good Pilates mat workout or stability ball abs workout, but that is easy to remedy.
