Going with the tide...

I'd have to agree that this installment of the Women's Murder Club was very disappointing. I love JP, but I'm not really a WMC fan. I really do not like Boxer at all. The ME is terrific though - she should get her own series. But this sixth installment is terribly bland, boring, and scattered.It started out with a bang (literally!), but died 10 pages later. And was never resurrected. Especially there was no "club". The other girls were more or less a sideline and had no real part. It was really boring.

I have my doubts. . . Did James Patterson really write this or did Maxine Paetro? James Patterson writes page turning thrillers that keep you hanging onto the edge of your chair. This book is more of a sad romance with little action and mixed plot lines. James Patterson is capable of much better. The Women's Murder Club doesn't even solve anything in this would-be whodunnit. If your looking for a good read, don't look here.

couldn't care less

This book reads as if it were writtem by a committee of people who have never met. There are three crime story lines going on at once and one about the lack of romance. To tell you the truth, I didn't care what would happen in anyone on the "plots", and all I am doing now is wondering why I wasted my time reading this book at all. Thank God I did not pay for it.
There are so many good books out there. Don't waste your time on this one.

To kill Mary in Romania, these code-named extremiststheir identities aren't divulged until the novel concludeshire Angel, a terrorist infamous for for barbarity, skill, and dedication. Sheldon's characterizations are slick but involving, and the action escalates to an electrifying final scene. Adding depth are descriptions of harsh Romanian life, the agony of widowhood and the foreign service initiation process.

Ellison's program is to start in Romania, and for ambassador he selects Mary Ashley, political science professor, wife, and mother who has seldom been outside Kansas in her 35 years, but whose writing has caught Ellison's eye. Sheldon strains credulity severely along the way, notably in murders masked as accidents, and Ashley's gaffes on the Washington diplomatic scene are glaringly inconsistent with her shrewd negotiating in Bucharest a few months later. Fun read

A good book, id read it a long time ago. Its a bit dated, but still fun to
read. I don't know if I subconsciously remembered it or if the big bad was telegrahed , but o knew the identity of the Controller was pretty obvious from about half way through the book.

I really like all of Sidney's books. He makes sinking into the story so very easy. I only detest that the stories end, but I suppose it helps me get to the next one. Always well done

Death and diplomacy

During the Cold War, the President of the United States asks college professor and Mrs. Average America Mary Ashley to fill the very important post of Ambassador to Romania. She is flattered, but declines because her husband's job requires him to stay here. Faster than you can say "Conspiracy theory," the husband has a fatal accident and Mary is off to Bucharest, where the protocol is stifling, her office is bugged, and her assistant, smart aleck Mike Slade, just may be trying to kill her.

This story is a bit of a departure for Sidney Sheldon, who usually writes romantic thrillers about spunky, single young women. Mary Ashley is brave, but definitely from the Donna Reed School for Wives and she has two (perfect) kids, to boot. The character I liked best was the enigmatic master assassin, Angel, who has killed some of the world's most influential people, and now find Mary Ashley on his to-do list. The ever-smirking Mike Slade is a fun and likeable character. You'll learn a lot about diplomatic protocol in this tidy little political thriller.

Totally fun

Hiaasen is the perfect summer read. His novels are stories that show the spectrum of life in Florida. mostly of eccentrics that probably could not survive elsewhere. And mostly do not survive his stories. Well told with great wit and laugh-out-loud comic genius.
