RIP, Jill Kinmont

I first heard of Jill Kinmont about the time she had her skiing accident which left her a quadriplegic. I was in grade school then and was very sad that it had happened to her. When they made "The Other Side of the Mountain" I was grown up and married, with a child of my own; but I still remembered Jill and the courage she had shown from the articles I read about her.
A few weeks ago, I came across something in a magazine that mentioned her passing, so I ordered both books that were written about her, her ability to cope and create a relatively-normal life for herself in a world that isn't always kind to those who have challenges in life.
I saw both movies and although I've ordered both books, this is the only one that has arrived - even though it is the sequel, I couldn't wait, so began reading it. It's well written and gives you insight into how Jill Kinmont Boothe has truly been able to make lemonade as the old quote goes! I was sorry to hear that she had passed away at age 74 as a result of post-surgical complications, but I'm still just as impressed as an adult as I was as a pre-teen with the wonderful life she was able to make for herself. Her family and then her husband, John, are all to be honored for all that they did for her, and all that they sat back and let her do for her own self. She - and they - should truly be honored for paving the way for so many others who have faced the same type of thing that she did. It's said that it takes a village, and no truer words have ever been spoken when it comes to her life. In addition to providing insight into how it is to be a quadri-plegic, a teacher, a reading specialist, and a wife, she also provides considerable insight into the world of the American Indians that reside near her home, and how she was able to make a difference in their world just as she did with her own.
RIP, Jill Kinmont Boothe, wife, daughter, sister, friend and so much else - it may have been easier had you focused on your own life and needs, but obviously you never did anything the easy way and we honor you for just that.

A little bit boring

This book is more like an novel than a biography, and it is too long! However, you will find a very brave Jill Kinmont. Her spirit has never end. She kept on fighting and never gave up.
