Afterwards you'll know how to get and stay healthy, for real

I'd like to start by saying that I think everyone should read Fit for Life first and then Fit for Life 2 - Living Health. This second books summarizes well the facts illustrated in the first book, but you will get a much better picture if you start with the first book. Also, it will probably be hard for most people to make a lot of changes in their lifestyle together, while it will definitely be easier to somewhat change your eating habits first and then expand your healthy habits adopting some (or all) of the suggestions you'll find in this 2nd book.
This book is not only about losing weight, as a thin person is not necessarily healthy. It's not just about looking good, it's about feeling good and treating your body how it deserves and then seeing the results on the outside, as well.
This book gives a very good understanding of how everybody, no matter their age, can be healthy and feel great and have a better life, and it explains it all very simply, so everyone can read it and understand it.
I also found that the recipes in this book are much better than the ones in the first book. A few days ago I made "ice cream" using frozen mango, bananas and strawberries and my whole family loved it! Only afterwards I told my husband that there was no milk nor any sugar added, and he could not believe it! My husband is also starting to get over the common view that "healthy things don't taste good", and believe me, I am a picky cook. I am Italian, I love cooking and I was always convinced that a meal should leave one satisfied.
And the book really gives you the awarness you need that WE ALL NEED to do something to keep healthy, because IT'S WORTH IT! Now I am eating well (that means I am eating healthy but I am also satisfied about my meals), I have enough energy to take care of my house, my 2 years old daughter and my numerous hobbies, and exercise, I am feeling better than I had in the long time and I am losing weight! What can one ask for more?

A great HEALTH book, not a diet book

If you want to know the TRUTH about health, food, nutrition, and the food giants, read this book. I was born with poor health and have suffered with it all of my 42 years of life. Or I should say, until I started living by the basic principles of "Living Health" several months ago. I have tried diets, doctors, and just about everything else one can imagine, and nothing did anything, but make things worse. The principles of "Living Health" in combination with another great book, "Eat Right 4 Your Type", have changed my life. After experimenting a little with the two books, I have lost 25 pounds in 3 weeks, my eyesight is clearing up, my joints feel 10 times better, my acne is 90% gone, and I feel almost as strong as I did when I was 18! I will add that I eat a small amount of meat (fish, chicken, and liver), lots of fresh, including raw, veggies (especially Kale, Broccoli,Celery, and lettace), and fruit for breakfast. These changes weren't easy for a "Southerner", but I feel great, and finally have good health due mostly to this wonderful book. Thank you to the Diamonds.

Sound Information Accessibly Presented

I first began the Fit For Life program (using the first Fit For Life book) 13 years ago and have continued using the dietary principles ever since. My problems with weight, acne, body odor, fatigue and mental sluggishness were all eliminated within several weeks of implementing the dietary recommendations alone.
In addition to the dietary suggestions presented in Fit For Life II, there are sections on menu planning (including a large section of recipes), aerobic exercise, yoga (for back health and overall flexibility), breathing exercises (for stamina and mental clarity), colon health, resources and much, much more.
Some Christians may find the inclusion of yoga off-putting...if you cannot bring yourself to buy a book with this type of thing in it, I highly recommend God's Way To Ultimate Health by Rev. Malkmus (The Hallelujah Diet), which is both free of new ageisms and scripturally based.
The only other weakness in this book, as I see it (and the reason I give it four stars instead of five), is that the authors have sacrificed presenting clear scientific evidence for the sake of making this book accessible--but it is because of this that the book has sold so well, I suspect. The bottom line, however, is that this program is not only effective, but life changing. If you are interested only in losing weight, you will find many many other benefits along the way.
For those who are facing cancer, heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, severe allergies or other immune diseases, the Fit For Life program is a jumping off point to juicing, sprouting, raw foods, etc...Please investigate the work of Dr. Day (who cured herself of invasive breast cancer [...] Rev. Malkmus (The Hallelujah Diet, visit [...] ) and many others who are working in this area with great success, helping thousands of people find healing.
Easy to read, good information and easy to stick with! A worthwhile purchase.

These are the nurses and entertainers, women America did not want to accept as veterans, many of whom kept their war memories secret until now. Few have received any recognition as writers, yet two poems included by Grace Paley seem weak by comparison with works by Sharon Grant, Marilyn McMahon, or the poets quoted above. Most poems here were written in the 1980s yet speak in the present tense--long enough after the fact, perhaps, that pain and memory can be transformed into art. Surprisingly, the weakest poems are those inspired by the Vietnam Memorial. Long overdue, yet aptly coinciding with news stories of women who served in the Persian Gulf, this is essential for all libraries. Coeditor Van DeVanter is also coauthor of Home Before Morning ( LJ 3/1/83), inspiration for the TV series China Beach .

phenomenal

I have returned from Iraq this year and found this book an incredible read. The stories, poems and letters written by nursses in the Vietnam War are the same stories that can be retold by the nurses from this Iraq War. We all share that same bond. I have given this book to many friends who have served in Iraq or who have recently returned. This is a book written from the hearts of those that have served our wounded heroes!

Heart-breaking, heart-warming, heart-informing

I first read this book in the mid-1990's. Recently I picked it up again. The insanity of war is just that, regardless of whether it happened when I was in my twenties or now in my sixties. As a non-participant in the immediacy of war, I can still feel my heart wrench as I read these poems. I cannot even begin to imagine the agony of working day to day in a combat hospital. If I had a son at war now, I would hope that women such as these would be there for him.

I admire Van DeVanter and Furey's courage in presenting such a wide range of poetic expressions. Some are, admittedly, the work of rank amateurs, but many carry the power of the true poetic voice. They included a few poems by Vietnamese women, with no indication of which "side" they were on. Loss of a loved one in war is, after all, a tragedy. Period.

VISIONS OF WAR, DREAMS OF PEACE is a monument, as lasting as the Wall itself. If someone you know is in Iraq, or has returned from Irag, or will never return from Iraq, here is an outcry against war, an eternal wish for peace. I wish you well.

Walking in a woman's combat boots

Ten of the poems in this book were wrenched from my innermost feelings... All of the poems are a true experience of the women who were and are touched by entering the man's world of war. I didn't carry weapons, didn't walk the bush, but I saw the carnage and felt the then seeming helplessness of the wounded bought in by dust-off. Intolerant of being helpless, I lived my tour in numbness and left Vietnam as only a shell. Who wouldn't in those conditions? To see and feel the real experience of war - read and know what it's like to walk in this woman's combat boots. N. Griffiths
