Excellent for entire family system, especially the caregiver

The book is informative, explicit for people who know nothing about mental health and diseases of the mind. Good for the lay person, the afflicted person, all of the family. Gives insight and helps with understanding care of the patient, and the grief involved for those around the patient. Good reference--I will be using it in a church group setting also.

My Mom has alzeheimers, I didn't think anyone was going through what I was until I read this book, It made me feel like I wasnt alone in this... Alzeheimers is a horrible disease, taking care of someone who has it rips your heart out... This book will help you deal with the everday's of taking care of someone... I recommend it to anyone who is going through this...

I read Three Faces years ago and found it fascinating, but have since read I'M EVE by Chris Costner Sizemore and Elen Sain Pitillo and agree with the reader who says that the false information published in the original Three Faces books was no longer relevant. What was particularly fascinating was how Drs. Thigpen and Cleckley suppressed Mrs. Sizemore's attempts to get the truth out and how Dr. Thigpen worked to mold her into the image that originally was responsible for her illness--the chauvanism and repression that she was desparately trying to escape.

An ending that didn't exist

Although this book was one of, if not the first book published about DID aka MPD, it is wrong. Although we are told that "Mrs. White" was cured at the end of the book, that was a fantasy created by her psychiatrist. This book is about 3 of the many personalities that Chris Costner Sizemore has had in her life. If you want the real story, try I'm Eve, written by Sizemore.
It is unfortunate that this book remains available when the true and more complete story is unavailable.

This is a good book!

I enjoyed this book. The authors presented the situation well. As I was reading the book, I felt as if I were in the room with Mrs. White, watching her personality change. This book gave me a better understanding of multiple personalities. I reccomend for anyone to read this book.

This book changed our son's life!

In searching for SOMETHING to help our son reach his full potential or at least get through elementary school, I ran across Dr. Levinson's book. The jacket told David's life history. We actually took David to Dr. Levinson for an evaluation and treatment. The week after we started him on the treatment, the school psychologist stopped me in the hallway and exclaimed how obvious it was that we had put David on Ritalin -- David was a totally different child! When I told the psychologist that David was taking over-the-counter generic pseudophedrine, he was shocked and disbelieving, but hopeful that perhaps this information could help other children. This episode began a personal crusade to explain Dr. Levinson's work to every parent I've encountered who has a child with one or more dyslexic symptoms. The book is excellent at explaining the root cause of the various manifestations of dyslexia. It clarifies the relationship of ADD and hyperactivity to learning disabilities and even phobias. I went on to read Phobia Free, Solution to the Riddle Dyslexia, and Total Concentration; however, Smart But Feeling Dumb is key reading for any parent, relative, and educator to understand how to help those who suffer from many seemingly disparate symptoms, such as motion sickness, allergies, and impulsivity. I believe that for some reason, the children of the Baby Boomer generation have a greater propensity towards these problems than the 20% quoted in the book and that many more people can benefit from Dr. Levinson's leading edge research.

An inspiring guide for dyslexics and their families.

My son is dyslexic. He is also gifted. Dr. Levinson has been the final key to helping my son break through his disability and love learning again. Dr. Levinson's book is for every parent and health provider not satisfied with the current and prevailing philosophy that dyslexia is a single symptom disability, and that learning disabilities in general are to be treated with one or two drugs and/or behavorial therapies, and that's all there is, and we're sorry, there is nothing else we can do. Dyslexia can be debilitating, not so much because of it's symptoms, but because of its effect on the dyslexic and his/her family, friends, teachers, etc. Dyslexics view themselves as flawed humans, inferior to others, yet they are often the brightest, most enlightened and creative humans among us. Dr. Levinson's medical premise is that dyslexia is due to an imbalance in the inner ear. Treat the cause, he suggests, don't just treat the symptoms. He outlines his approach through case histories and before and after results to his therapy. This is a wonderful book, not just because it will enlighten the reader, but because it chronicles real lives and real successes, like my son.

READING IS BELIEVING

Everything you read in this and every other book Dr. Levinson has written is absolutely real and true. I struggled with the frustration and hopeless feelings that often accompany inner-ear impairment and dyslexia for many years. I've been a patient of Dr. Levinson since 1992 and can say without trepidation that my inner-ear(CVS) based comprehensive medical treatment has been a lifesaver. Before treatment, my many varied and severe CVS syptoms had literally paralyzed me. Simple tasks like driving a car or riding a bike became extremely difficult. My mental faculties were so clouded that learning seemed almost impossible.
Anyone who believes that dyslexia and related CVS symptoms are not treatable should read and understand Dr. Levinson's writings. The treatments and strategies used by Dr. Levinson often profoundly impact one's quality of life by ameliorating- not curing- the many varied and devastating symptoms of CVS impairment.

About the Author
Tiffany L. Warren, is an author, playwright, songwriter, mother and wife. Her debut novel What a Sista Should Do, was released in June of 2005 and has ministered to over 50,000 readers. Her second book, Farther than I Meant to Go, Longer than I Meant to Stay was a national bestseller. In 2006, Tiffany and her husband, Brent, founded Warren Productions and released their first gospel musical. What a Sista Should Do - The Stage Play debuted in Cleveland, OH at the famed Allen Theatre.

Tiffany is also the visionary behind the Faith and Fiction Fellowship tour. Presently, the authors have visited groups in Atlanta, Houston, New York, Baltimore, Washington D.C. and Charlotte.

Tiffany's third novel, The Bishop's Daughter was released in January 2009. Tiffany resides in northern Texas with her husband Brent and their five children.

At 17 years old, Zenovia Sinclair's life is a lot different from other teens. With a schizophrenic mother, Audrey, Zenovia is forced to do more of the parenting, making it necessary to scrutinize everything in order to ward of any possible embarrassing attacks. When members of the Brethren of the Sacrifice Church show up and offer Audrey a chance to start over, she is excited and ready to sign up. Fortunately for Zenovia, she finds that the children involved in the Brethren are friendly and easy to deal with, making it easy for her to finally have a semblance of a normal life with friends and hanging out while not having to monitor her mother's every single move.

Both falling into comfortable roles within the Brethren, Audrey's finally found the husband that she dreamed of 17 years prior. Unfortunately for Zenovia, Phillip, her mother's dream man, is dead set against medication and Zenovia is afraid of how her new life will deteriorate with a non medicated Audrey on the prowl.

Invested in her own drama, Zenovia is dating Emil, considered a rebel with the Brethren, and crushing on two brothers, Tristan and Justin, superstars in the Brethren. When her relationship with Emil goes further, Zenovia is treated like an outcast and is soon out of the perch. It hurts, but what hurts her more is the fact that even Audrey appears against her.

Four years later, Zenovia bumps into Justin Batiste at church. Despite his intense pursuit, Zenovia is still uncertain about them moving towards a future together. When she learns that he's cast out of the Brethren, they both must take a walk of faith and learn to get past the betrayal, hurt and pain associated with their families.

IN THE MIDST OF IT ALL by Tiffany L. Warren caught me completely off guard. I'd never read the synopsis and was just intent on reading it because of who the author was. A good story, with great characters and a different choice of religion was just the right mixture that pulled it all together for me. I loved that you felt the uncertainty, the doubt and the forgiveness throughout the entire story. God can do anything but fail!

Alexander Hamilton and Malcolm X are quoted for saying "Those Who Stand for Nothing, Fall for Anything." That almost describes Zenovia except she did have a relationship with God and she knew the bible for herself. So when Charlotte and her daughter Alyssa from Brethren of the Sacrifice knocked on her door claiming to have "good news," why did Zenovia ignore her gift and decide to join along with her mother? Was it because of her mom, or the excitement of being back in church?

In search of good news, Audrey's excited about joining a new church. Zenovia has missed the choir and the preaching at their church First Gethsemane; however, what they find at Brethren of the Sacrifice Devotion Center leaves Audrey mentally unstable and Zenovia with unanswered questions and a broken spirit.

I enjoyed the cast of characters, their story, and how they were redeemed. We see Zenovia's mother Audrey, though straddled with schizophrenia, eager to find a husband and a church. What I absolutely loved about this character was that side of her which had me laughing out loud throughout the book. As quick as she would crack a joke, she would cut you smooth if you crossed her.

We met Zenovia at age seventeen, mentally older than her years, waiting for that next thing, whatever that was and looked like. I would assume that it's because she's cared for her mom for as long as she can remember. With no friends or a boy to call her own, Zenovia's grace is longer than her suffering.

Tiffany Warren opens the doors on religious rhetoric and issues in the church that don't line up with what the bible says. I believe this is the perfect time for Christian authors to shed light on non-biblical doctrine being taught and preached in the church. In the Midst of It All could help the readers answer or feel empowered enough to challenge their church belief system, ask questions or seek the bible for answers. The title of this book was befitting of the challenges represented. In the midst of all that's going on and all that's being said to you, keep your focus on the Lord because His love will always be there.

How Long Do You Stand?

At one time or other we all find ourselves standing in the midst of it all; all
that we love, all that we hate, all that we control and finally all the things
we can't control. Zenovia finds herself in that place daily, as she not only
struggles with living a teenager's life, taking care of Audrey, her
schizophrenic mother, and last but not least the visions. Zenovia aka Zee, as
well as her mother, both have visions about their lives and others. Audrey
embraces this ability; Zee does not. After years of doing everything alone,
Zee thinks God is finally giving her some help, when two members of the
Brethren of the Sacrifice show up at their door and welcome them into their
church family. The Brethren of the Sacrifice preach an uncommon version of the
Bible but that's ok with Audrey, and whatever is ok with Audrey is ok with Zee
as long as it keeps Audrey's mental state on the right track.

In the beginning, things with the Brethren was good, Zee finally has friends to
hang out with and even develops her first crush, and Audrey's vision from years
ago has come true. Things quickly change for Zee as she learns more about the
Brethren's views on everything from what school you attend, who your friends
are, future education plans, and the Brethren's views on schizophrenia.
Eventually, it's all too much for Zee and she leaves home and the Brethren with
plans on never returning. How will Zee and Audrey deal with this decision?
Will their relationship ever be the same? Will Zee ever step foot in a church
again, after her experience with the Brethren?

Once again, Tiffany L. Warren has written a thought-provoking book that puts
you in the character's shoes and lives. Throughout the book, I wondered what
my reaction would be in the various situations in which Zee found herself. I
also wondered if I would be patient and strong like Zee in taking care of her
mother. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick and
reflective read.

Although there are plenty of events, Babson fails to make the narrative move in her usually skillful style, and the potential thriller is only moderately entertaining.

The first approach in the reactivity study is that of studying catalytic activity of single crystals and structure sensitivity which are summarized in Chapter 3. One of the most prominent effects in the CO activation process is ascribed to the presence of additives, promoters which, in a real catalyst system, are far more complicated than on single crystal surfaces (Chapter 4).

The original Fischer-Tropsch process applied fused iron or cobalt catalysts which were suitable for producing mainly straight chain hydrocarbons. The two most important processes involving CO activation, the new FT process and alcohol formation are discussed in Chapters 5 and 7. An important type of catalyst, the bimetallic catalysts, is discussed in Chapter 6. The role of hydrogen as one of the most frequently used partners in CO activation is discussed in Chapter 8. The field of production of specialty chemicals is an excellent example of the homogeneous catalytic activation of CO (Chapter 9). In Chapter 10 an overview is given of the industrial applications of CO chemistry and these are illustrated by working processes. The final chapter gives the reader some hints about future progress in the field.

Verity and Jonas are very memorable characters, which is why the sequel to this book "Gift of Fire" was written, if it had not been, we would have demanded it! Jayne Krentz writes well researched books with humor, passion, and believable plots even when the 'paranormal' elements can make for a wild ride. The best part of the book is the relationship between Jonas and Verity, full of passion, doubt, trust, exasperation, and full of life. I like that Krentz uses other characters' foibles and machinations as 'tests' for the two characters, which make for an exciting read. Do not pass up this book or the sequel. You will be missing some great reads.

Wonderful story

I cannot give this book more than 5 stars or I would. Once again Dorothy Garlock has written a wonderful story. Her knack for detail is wonderful. I have read so many of her books and think I've read them all then discover that there are others that I've missed. She is a very easy read. Sometimes, with other writers I have to go back and read something over but not with Dorothy's writing. The brutality of the people in this story is so real that I almost believed that these cruel characters were real. Keep up the good work Dorothy, we love your books.

Have to agree...

... Dorothy Garlock is an excellent writer, that always satisfies... and exceeds your expectations, with each and every book she writes. This story was no exception.
If you take a look at all the reviews that I've written so far, you'll see that most of the books are Dorothy Garlock books. When I picked up With Hope for the first time, I never even heard of her. I just found the book in a box of books at my mother's house, and I was looking for something different to read. I never imagined what effect it would have on me.
Now I probably read about twenty-five of the thirty plus books she has written... and this was since August 2001!!! For a person that doesn't read about two to three books a year, that should say a lot!!!
I've been passing each and every one of Ms. Garlock's books to my sisters, mother, and grandmother - after I finish each one. They like them as much as me, and the stories that I thought were great, but not her best, they liked even more. We all have different tastes, but we all love Ms. Garlock's stories!
Nevertheless, this story is just as action-packed, and romantic as all of her stories. You'll feel for the stress and terror that Dory felt each and every day of her life... finding relief only in her daughter and brother, James. Dory and James are up against the world, or so it seems, as they try and survive their day to day life, at the hands of their step-brothers, Louis and Milo. James, never really realizing how dangerous their lives were, until Ben comes to work at the logging mill run by Louis, Milo, and James.
Then the story is just like a ball of yarn coming unravelled, as it is rolled. Each event that occurs brings Dory and Ben closer together, as well as makes their lives more dangerous in the process.
There is also a mystery of the Ben's deaf daughter, and then the love she discovers in James. These two characters were so strong, and so enjoyable to read.... and easily could have been main characters in another story, without losing an ounce of charm.
This story is full of gunshots, murderers, a rapist, a questionable marshall, a mystery behind the mills accountant, and the strange family relationships and complications. Everything comes to a head, and you feel the tension of the family, then it slowly unravels leaving you in awe over the truths that are discovered.

I hated the violence in this book

This was my first Dorothy Garlock book, and it was too violent for me, I kept hoping it would get better but it never did. I like Historical Romance books that make me feel good. This one sure didn't. I felt sick to my stomach over all the yelling and physical battering and violence, rapes, near rapes and killings of Milo(Louis wasn't much better). And when Milo beat Dories face up so horribly and ground a little kittens head to pulp under the heel of his boot, that finally did it for me,(that happened on page 187)and thats when the book made it into the garbage can. I have never found violence to be entertaining. I certainly do not see how anyone could give this book a five star, they sure have a stronger stomach than I have. I would have given this book a zero if I could have.
