From Publishers Weekly
Back in the hood but movin' on up, Tasha and Trae Macklin have reformed somewhat but are still in urban grit mode. In Clark's latest street lit, her fourth novel in the Thug series, the couple's moved to L.A. although Trae briefly returns to the East Coast for some revenge killing after his cousin Shaheem's murdered. Three years later, Tasha has three children and it's all good except Trace opens up a flashy nightspot, Club New York. To do this, he makes a connection with Charles Li, a Chinese mobster, and his dangerous daughter, Charli. Then Sabeerah, a devious young witness to Trae's New Jersey crime, moves to L.A. and tries to blackmail Trae. In another plot line Det. Rick Bryant, the couple's neighbor, gets involved with Kyra, Tasha's old friend, whose hubby, Marvin, is using drugs. Clark, who started her writing career while incarcerated, depicts Tasha's travails and Kyra's problems with a brutally honest squint, but it's hard to care about extra thuggy Trae. (Aug.)

What a disappointment!!!
By Amazon Customer
First, let me say that I have been a "die hard" Wahida fan. I have read all of her books. However, "this &*#@) RIGHT HERE " was unbelievable (and not in a good way)! We fell in love with Trae, Tasha, Kaylin, Angel and the rest of the crew in books 1 - 3. Those characters are not recognizable in Thug Lovin' (book 4). I feel as though I have been lied to. At the end of Thug Lovin, I hated Trae, was disappointed in Tasha, disgusted by Marvin and saddened by Kyra. I can appreciate the need to "mix it up". But, this was a GRIMY tale. Trae's behavior was inconceivable. The fact that he cheated on Tasha was the LEAST of his foul behavior. What he did to Tasha at the end of the book is what we tell our daughters, sisters, girlfriends, etc to NEVER accept. It was inconceivable, unnecessary and not consistent with Trae's character. Why take such a loved character and have him beat his wife to the point where he doesn't know how she got on the floor? Are you kidding me? What is that and what was the point of reducing him (them) to that level? Don't devoted readers of the series deserve better than that? How is that possibly 5 stars? Furthermore, the Tasha that we know would NEVER accept that behavior from him. The real shame is that there are so few TRUE showcases of Black Love. The magic of books 1-3 is the message that our powerful connections do exist (contrary to what the media would say) and that they are to be celebrated. What Trae did to Tasha at the end of the book cheapened him and the story told about him and Tasha in books 2 and 3. It went far beyond "shock value". How can he possibly be redeemed? What's next? Does Kaylin shoot Angel? Is Faheem a cross-dresser? Does Jaz develop a crack addiction? We waited a year for THIS? I feel cheated.

FINALLY!!!
By Jasmine
Ugh..where do I begin? I absolutely LOVE 'Thug Lovin'!! Alot of the other reviews talk about how Trae's character changed but I personally believe Tasha changed the most! I absolutely loved her in Every Thug Needs A Lady & Thug Matrimony but In Thug Lovin Tasha seemed like a classless whore who was too distracted by having sex then fixing her martial problems. As many bad decisions as Trae made I still loved his character..he almost lost me for a minute b/c the whole domestic abuse thing it was a bit excessive and unexpected. I wish Angel & Kaylin had a bigger role in this book. Maybe some of the mistakes between Trae & Tasha wouldn't have been made if they had Kay & Angel to talk them down. There were alot of ups and downs in this book but overrall I loved it!! Im impatiently waiting for the next installment. Hopefully Tasha isn't pregnant & if so hopefully its not by her new lover! I dont know maybe its the hopeless romantic in me but I want Trae & Tasha to work!!! Keep up the good work Ms Clark!!

Disappointed!
By Gideon's Lover
Where do I begin with why I was disappointed with this latest addition of the Thug series. Well....let me begin with the new characters: Saberaah/Rick/Charli/Stephon. Their characters were so underdeveloped I don't know why they were in the book.
Then the characters I had come to know and love...Tasha, Kyra...what happened to the smart, intelligent, college-educated, goal-oriented women who just so happened to fall in love with "thugs?" Why were they reduced to chicken headed hoes in this book?
Three quarters of the book was about Tasha leaving or planning to leave or on the verge of leaving Trae. This became boring and tiresome quickly. The only time Tasha wasn't in some stage of leaving was when Trae was "twisting her back out".
The other one quarter of the book was Kyra planning to leave or threatening to leave Marvin. It was all so doggone juvenile! How old are these people??? And the saddest part was to revisit their addictions of the past...I just didn't get it.
And then to have Kyra and Tasha just sexing other men as "revenge f**king" was sterotypical and extremely weak. I expected so much more....and maybe that was the problem.
I have previously enjoyed Wahida's work and I'm sure I will again. But this time I found it ironic that the imprisoned Wahida seemed to write with much more passion and love then the now free Wahida. This Wahida came across as mean, angry and vindictive. I get the sense that "Big Daddy" was not waiting for her upon her release and she took it out on the rest of us with this book.
